EAL

With over 25% of our pupils coming from different countries all around the world, Bailey’s Court Primary School is proud to be a diverse community that celebrates the cultures of all our families.

We are passionate about providing support to our pupils with English as an Additional Language, (EAL). Our aim is for your child to not only access all areas of the curriculum but to thrive during their time with us. We recognise that all families will have a different experience of English as a spoken language and therefore we work closely with parents, as well as carrying out EAL assessments, to tailor support to your child.

Throughout the year, we run dedicated interventions carried out by two EAL Teaching Assistants who work to develop the whole child and support the learning of English. This will focus on their personal, social and emotional development as well as their academic progress.

There is a fantastic feature on the homepage of our website that allows you to translate the contents of each page into your first language. As seen here

Tips for parents:

  • Continue to speak your first language at home.
  • Read regularly with your child. This can be in your first language and/or in English.
  • Visit your local library to access reading books. Most libraries also have a fantastic collection of audio books.
  • If you have any questions about your child’s education, speak to your child’s class teacher and they will be happy to help.
  • Use the links below to explore resources you can use to support your child at home.
